Film Opening Research #2 - Zookeeper

The movies title Zookeeper is presented in the beginning of the film. Columbia Pictures also appears at the very start as well as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Aside from these, there are very few credits-like appearances. The movie begins right away. In the intro, the images that are prioritized are that of the beach and the bright environment. This is immediately contrasted with the sudden change in reactions as well as lighting as it becomes darker upon his rejection. The images at first show the happiness of a relationship and potential marriage, but connotation changes when the sun sets. However, not all of the intro is comprised of this scene, as it also introduces some of the animals at the Zoo and how he finds true joy there. The genre is comedy/romance and this can be noticed within the first few minutes. The setting and color are significant symbolic codes as the setting shows the mood and the color creates the theme of a location, such as the change in color at the beach. The technical codes of editing, audio, and lighting also create the comedic affect as they change the mood rapidly such as in the proposal scene. An odd enigma is established from the beginning, although it is not obvious, he wishes to be in a relationship and the enigma is how he lacks the ability to be with someone as his work is not respected. The strategies used to keep the target audience interested include the usage of animals as well as the bubbly personality of the main character. The comedic and romance story line brings the audience in, and the characters support it. Technology isn't used much aside from the rapidly changing lights and some CGI affects with the animals. Camera angles tend to show all the characters from at least the body up in a close shot. The transitions are very sudden and the editing are done to keep the movie interesting.
